Dentures
It can take some time to get used to wearing your new dentures, especially if it's your first time. At our Graham dental office, we’ve placed a lot of dentures, and we can assure you that everyone who has ever worn dentures felt the same way in the beginning.
You’ve probably noticed that any new dental work feels odd at first, and dentures are no different. The important thing to remember is not to get discouraged as you go through the process. Be patient with yourself and follow these simple guidelines:
Speaking: This is probably one of the trickiest parts of wearing new dentures. It’s normal to feel like they’re going to slip and slide as you speak. This is one of those situations where the saying “practice makes perfect” really makes sense. Practice at home, reading aloud or speaking to your dog, and pretty soon you will notice that you are gradually adjusting to the sensation of speaking with dentures.
Eating: Start with soft foods that don’t require much chewing and cut your food into small pieces. As you become accustomed to eating with dentures, you can start to eat more solid foods.
Everything else: Aren’t you happy to be able to smile and laugh again without embarrassment? Of course, you will need to give yourself time to adjust, and if you feel your dentures starting to slip, take a deep breath and know that this too shall pass!
Patience and persistence are the key. Don’t be too hard on yourself if your dentures seem to resist you! Pretty soon you will find that you have become comfortable with your dentures and know how to control them as you move your mouth.
The team at our Graham dental office is here to help you through the process. As treatment progresses, we will talk to you about the changes you can expect with new dentures, and how to work through the little kinks that can be frustrating at first.
Oral Surgery
We want to make sure that you are always comfortable, so we provide nitrous oxide as well as oral sedation at our Graham dental office. Both are very effective, and we'll choose the option that is most appropriate for your specific needs.
Nitrous oxide is a very mild form of sedation that works well for the majority of patients with mild anxiety. You simply sit back and breathe, and soon you will drift into a comfortable and relaxed state. Nitrous oxide will not put you to sleep or knock you out – it will just dull your senses so that the sights and sounds around you fade into the background.
Oral conscious sedation is helpful if you experience greater anxiety during treatment. Before your scheduled appointment, Dr. Caddell will prescribe a calming medication for you to take about an hour before you arrive at our office.
We can combine nitrous oxide and oral sedation for the ultimate in stress-free treatment. A member of our caring professional team will monitor your sedation and stay with you before, during, and after your procedure. Please note that if we use oral conscious sedation, you will need a designated driver to get to and from your appointment.
Please contact our Graham dental office if you would like more information about our sedation options.
Dr. Caddell performs many types of oral surgery procedures, including tooth extraction. Our goal is to keep your teeth in a healthy state so that they remain intact for life. But circumstances may make tooth extraction our only option. If necessary, we can do emergency extractions the same day at our Graham dental office.
There are several situations where extraction may be necessary:
- Severe decay or periodontal infection that has damaged most of the tooth
- Dental trauma or injury
- Fracture of the tooth below the gumline
- Overcrowded teeth
- Preparation for orthodontics or dentures
We know that tooth extraction can be stressful for many patients, and we are pleased to offer sedation dentistry to help you get through the procedure with as little anxiety as possible. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation are both effective options that are helpful for most people. Dr. Caddell will discuss these options and help you make the decision as to which is best for you.
Our compassionate team of professionals has assisted with many extractions and has the experience needed to make sure you stay calm and comfortable. If you are in pain and believe that you may need a tooth pulled, please contact our Graham dental office as soon as possible. We will see you as quickly as we can to make sure you get the relief you need.
Porcelain Veneers
We believe that the point of cosmetic dental treatments like porcelain veneers is that they should blend in and look completely natural. Porcelain veneers expertly placed at our Graham dental office will be virtually indistinguishable from the rest of your teeth.
The first step is for us to talk to you about your expectations so we have a clear understanding of the results you’re looking for. We will work with you to select the exact color, shape, and size of veneers to resolve your cosmetic issues and give you the smile you’ve always wanted.
Porcelain veneers are naturally beautiful because porcelain is a durable material that looks like your real teeth. It is does not look flat or fake, so it blends in perfectly with the rest of your smile.
Dr. Caddell will make sure that the appearance of your veneers looks natural and fits the shape of your face and even your skin tone. No one will notice that you’ve had any work done. But they will notice your radiant smile!
If you’re ready to take your smile from drab to dazzling, please contact our Graham dental office for more information about our beautiful veneers and how they can transform your appearance.
